Slate colored countertop microwave is dicontinued

I bought an entire kitchen package in the Slate color, and mistakenly ordered an over the range microwave. It was my fault, so I resold the microwave to someone else. My new cabinets have an alcove for a countertop microwave to just sit on a ledge. Now I find out that GE has stopped making any counter top models in the Slate color. That's pretty awful customer care. I have patterned my entire kitchen around this Slate color, and now I'll have to go with a different colored microwave. Hey GE....if you are going to produce specialty colors, then you need to have ALL of the appliances available in those colors. If I could, I'd send everything back.

Glass door spontaneously shattered less than 2 years from purchase. I was standing in the kitchen and heard a pop like something fell off the counter. I looked around and found nothing and then the glass started to crackle and break across like thin ice. It hadn't used for hours before this and is exclusively used by adults.

I bought this same model 6 years ago. It got very loud while it was running. We replaced it with the same model because it was the only way to match the GE slate color of our other appliances. So far it works well and runs quietly. I was surprised that the mounting hardware was not the same as the old unit.

Good Slate finish OTR microwave, but...

We purchased our original JVM3160 microwave oven in 2017. It was a good, basic over the range microwave. We bought it as part of a suite of GE kitchen appliances in their Slate finish, which we still really like. The oven itself developed a fault, and we were told it would be less expensive to replace it rather than fix it. Our new JVM3160 is different than our original, and one of those differences is disappointing. Our original JVM3160 had two lights underneath to illuminate the top of the range under the microwave. I had replaced the original 25 watt incandescent appliance bulbs with 7 watt LED appliance bulbs, which gave us the light output of two 60 watt conventional bulbs. The new version of the JVM3160 has only one bulb, which is mounted just left of center on the bottom of the unit. The bulb provides inadequate light on the 'Bright' setting, and provides even less on the 'Low' setting. Not good for someone trying to cook while dealing with macular degeneration. The bulb used is a pin mount bulb, so I'm not sure if I'm going to find something brighter.

We previously had a similar sized GE over-the-range microwave oven that was approximately the same size. Both were in slate finish. This oven is nearly identical but the handle is flat (not pleasantly oval-shaped) and the rotating plate sits well above the floor of the unit. Overall it just feels cheaper and less refined than the 10 year old we had. I thought this was because it was very low cost, so I went into Home Depot and found that all of the ones on display are like this. Generally, they just look and feel less robust in design.

We are very disappointed with the problems we've had with this microwave.. We bought one in 2014 and had to fix it once and then replace it completely in 2020 with the same model, and now the second one is kicking out the circuit breaker.

the machine appears to be light weight and cheaply built. It only has 1 light in it. When bacon is cooked, it doesn't cook evenly.. I wish it had a medium speed on the exhaust fan, but no. Just seems to be built poorly

The circular ring and glass plate for the inside do not work as anticipated It is very unstable - the plate does not rest properly on the ring with wheels on it and thus if you do not put the thing that you are heating up "exactly in the middle" of the plate, it risks tipping hot product out if you stop it and take it out the over and I cant upload a picture as it offers down below

Installation Issue

The representative who told us about this replacement order said it was the same size and color match as our previous model. However the support frame was different which made it difficult to install. We had to drill another hole in the wall since the support bolts in the back were not the same measurement as the previous model. Please advice your support staff that you will need to notify your customers upon purchase that a new hole will be necessary when you install the new microwave. Fortunately we had a drill to complete the task.
